Care Instructions

To ensure and preserve the beauty and longevity of your acquisitions, these care instructions have been drafted. Each guide reflects the high standards of Tifiras Design, emphasizing the preservation of artisanal materials and the "living" nature of our pieces.

Lighting: Ceiling, Floor, Wall & Table

Our lighting is a masterpiece of Dinanderie, crafted from solid copper and brass. To maintain the mesmerizing dance of shadows:

  • Dusting: Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth to remove dust from intricate filigree holes. Avoid abrasive brushes that may scratch the metal.

  • Metal Care: Our pieces are often left unlacquered to allow for a natural patina. If you prefer the original brilliance, use a specialized copper or brass cleaner sparingly. For a matte look, simply let the piece age gracefully.

  • Safety: Always ensure the power is disconnected before cleaning. Use only the recommended bulb wattage to prevent overheating of the metal shades.

Poufs & Leatherwork

Hand-stitched and dyed with mineral pigments, our poufs are designed for tactile comfort.

  • Conditioning: For leather poufs, apply a high-quality leather conditioner every 6–12 months to keep the hide supple and prevent cracking.

  • Cleaning: For Sabra (cactus silk), spot clean only with a slightly damp cloth. Avoid saturating the fibers, as natural dyes may bleed.

  • Maintenance: Over time, stuffing may settle. Simply unzip the base and add cotton batting or recycled textiles to restore its sculptural shape.

Candle Holders

To preserve the intricate metalwork of your hand-pierced holders:

  • Wax Removal: Never use sharp metal tools to scrape wax. Instead, place the holder in the freezer for an hour; the cold will cause the wax to shrink and pop off easily. Alternatively, use a hairdryer on low heat to soften the wax and wipe it away with a paper towel.

  • Polishing: Follow the same care as our lighting to maintain the copper or brass finish.

Tables & Mirrors

Featuring hand-carved wood, brass, copper, Zellige tile, or bone inlay, these pieces require gentle care.

  • Surfaces: Wipe Zellige or wood surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or bleach, which can erode the grout or damage the wood's natural oils.

  • Mirror Glass: Clean the glass with a mixture of water and white vinegar. Avoid spraying the solution directly onto the frame to protect the metal or wood borders.

  • Placement: Keep wooden furniture away from direct heat sources to prevent warping.

Rugs

Our rugs are woven stories of Amazigh heritage.

  • Rotation: Rotate your rug every 6 months to ensure even wear and sun exposure.

  • Vacuuming: Vacuum once a week using a low-suction setting without a beater bar, which can pull at the hand-knotted fibers.

  • Spills: Blot (do not rub) spills immediately with a clean, white cloth and lukewarm water.

  • For deep cleaning, we recommend professional rug cleaning only.

Outdoor: Decor, Seating & Lighting

Designed to bridge ancient craftsmanship with the elements:

  • Outdoor Seating: While our wrought iron frames are built for durability, we recommend bringing cushions (Sabra or cotton) inside during heavy rain or extreme winter conditions to prevent mildew.

  • Outdoor Lighting: Copper lanterns will naturally develop a turquoise "verdigris" patina when exposed to moisture. This is a protective layer and a mark of authenticity. If you wish to slow this process, apply a thin coat of high-quality furniture wax to the metal.

  • Raffia Decor: Raffia is a natural palm fiber. To prolong its life, keep it in covered outdoor areas. If it becomes damp, ensure it dries completely in the sun to maintain its structural integrity.
